VeriFactu
VERI*FACTU is live and Spain's Tax Agency has a free app, but it can't issue receipts
Spain's Tax Agency enabled VERI*FACTU in April 2025 and launched a free invoicing app. Why it doesn't replace a laundromat's payment system.
What happened
As Expansión reported, Spain's Tax Agency enabled the VERI*FACTU services on 23 April 2025, so businesses and professionals have been able to use compliant invoicing systems since then, even though the obligation comes later.
The underlying goal is to end dual-use software, the kind that lets businesses hide sales. Owning it is fined € 50,000 per financial year under article 201 bis of Spain's General Tax Law.
In October 2025, the Tax Agency added a free invoicing app for self-employed workers, professionals and businesses with few invoices. According to its own help pages, every invoice must name a recipient, so it cannot issue simplified invoices (receipts) or export records to another system.
What it means for your laundromat
Our reading: the free app is useful for a monthly invoice to a business customer, but not for a laundromat's day-to-day, where almost everything is receipts issued by a kiosk.
Your payment system has to issue those receipts in compliance with VeriFactu by itself. If it doesn't, review the hidden cost of an outdated payment system and what VeriFactu requires.
